In a large-scale survey of AI researchers in September 2023, they stated (on average) that a song created entirely by an AI system will be in the top 40 of the charts for the first time in 2028. But back in August 2024, the song »Verknallt in einen Talahon« entered the official German charts at number 48. Although this song was written by a human, everything else (music, voice, arrangement, etc.) was created by an AI system. There are several tools on the market for this, the best of which are currently udio.com and suno.ai.

This is currently the best approach: have the lyrics written by a human and then let the AI systems work with them. Even though ChatGPT and other AI chatbots based on LLMs already have impressive linguistic skills, they are not yet able to write lyrics in German with sufficient quality, at least not for a placement in the charts. Fortunately, we have a lyricist in our ranks – and so we too have created some songs. You can listen to two of them right here. We also used udio.com for »Verknallt in einen Talahon«.

The first song is called »Zeitenwende« and warns of the future of AI. We wrote the lyrics and created it especially for this website. Time spent on the lyrics: half a day. Work with udio.com: approx. 2 hours. We therefore hold the copyright for the text. The music is theoretically completely free of copyright, as it was created with an AI system – but it reminds us in part of Cat Stevens (whose stage name is now Yusuf).

The second song is called »Cuba Libre« and is the setting of a poem by Gernot Winter. Time required with udio.com: approx. 4 hours.
